If:
- your facility has a documented process in place to select and purchase chemicals based on their hazards and MRSL requirements,
- all chemicals meet the requirements of MRSL and the facility’s purchasing policy,
- and the MRSL conformance is confirmed annually (e.g., through certificates/declarations of MRSL conformance, certificates of analysis, etc),
then the facility can select Yes and indicate whether the chemicals purchased and used in production meet the facility's chemical purchasing policy.
From ZDHC FAQs, "Does the scope of the ZDHC MRSL include facilities that manufacture Man-Made Cellulosic Fibres (MMCF)?", a 2018 industry expert report commissioned by ZDHC on the production of MMCF concluded that restricting chemicals via the ZDHC MRSL approach would not work. The restrictions would halt most MMCF production processes. They would achieve the most impact by collaboratively setting guidance around good chemical management and limits for wastewater, sludge, air emissions, and chemical recovery during fiber production while calling for continued further research into processes for the production of MMCF, using alternative and less hazardous substances.
