The current Supply Impacts tool was originally introduced to assist with estimating a portion of a facility’s impacts as reported in the Higg FEM, based on production volume. Changes introduced in FEM 4.0 to the way that production volume is reported separately by Facility Types, combined with low usage of this tool, led to the decision to discontinue it on January 1, 2025.
As an alternative, this article provides information on the basic steps for calculating a portion of facility impacts using the data from the Performance CSV, in Excel.
Steps:
- Navigate to the FEM Module Page
- Filter Year to “2023” (or any subset of facilities)
- Click on the top selector and scroll to “Select all across pages”
- Click Download
- Click the “CSV” button for Performance CSV
- Click “download”
- Open the .csv file in Excel
- Insert three new columns
- Label columns
- Our Annual Production Volume
- GHG by Production
- Energy by Production
- Identify what facility type(s) your production utilizes
- For example, this demo facility reports both “Final Product Assembly” and “Raw Material Processing,” and we only use the Final Product Assembly.
- Create this equation for “GHG by Production”
- per example, = (Production Volume) x (total_normalized_finalProductAssembly_ghg_kgco2e)
- generalized, = [(Production Volume) x (Normalized GHG for Facility Type 1)] + [(Production Volume) x (Normalized GHG for Facility Type N+1)]….
- Create this equation for “Energy by Production”
- = (Production Volume) / (Facility Total Annual Production) x (total_energy_mj)
These steps will provide estimated calculations for the portion of the GHG impacts reported in the FEM that result from your production volume with the facility, over the entire reporting period.
