The Higg Facility Environmental Module (Higg FEM) is an assessment that measures the environmental impact of manufacturing facilities in order to track and improve its performance. The Higg Higg FEM is most commonly used by facilities to measure and improve the environmental performance of the consumer goods industries. However, facilities of all types commonly use the Higg Higg FEM as their tool to measure environmental performance. Some manufacturers may need to review the [available guidance](https://howtohigg.org/resources-library-fem4-resources/#) to better understand how the assessment applies to their operations, such as in the “Site Info” section. If you have further questions about whether the Higg Higg FEM applies to your industry, please reach out to the support team for more information at support.worldly.io. ### What Does It Mean if a Section Is Not Applicable? Not all FEM questions apply to all facilities. Questions will appear based on a facility's responses as it proceeds through the assessment. Questions that are not relevant to the facility's operations or potential risks will not appear on its assessment. For more details, refer to the [applicability section of How to Higg](https://howtohigg.org/higg-fem/higg-fem4-scoring-methodology/#section4). ### Why Do Some Questions Not Appear on My FEM Assessment? We created a guidance page showing which questions you will see depending on how you answer the applicability questions at the beginning of each section which you can use to determine why you are not being asked those questions: [Higg FEM Scoring Methodology](https://howtohigg.org/higg-fem/higg-fem4-scoring-methodology/.) If something in this guidance is not clear or you have more questions, do not hesitate to reach out directly to our support team. ### Will My Work Be Automatically Saved on Higg FEM? Your module will automatically save your answers as you complete the questions. This is important to prevent the loss of work due to slow internet connections. Please upload all documents as a single PDF file. Only some questions based on certain criteria are permitted to upload multiple documents.  We highly suggest combining all documents into a single PDF prior to uploading. The file size limit for uploading documents to a Higg FEM Assessment is 100MB. ### Is The Higg FEM Offline Excel Tool Still Available to Download? Higg FEM 4.0 and Higg FEM Foundations are available exclusively online. The offline Excel-based Higg FEM tool was discontinued due to the growing complexity and size of the assessment. With the introduction of new quantitative data points in Higg FEM 4.0, the number of required columns exceeded Excel’s technical limit of 16,384 columns, making it no longer feasible to support the full assessment in a single CSV or Excel file. Moving to an online-only assessment ensures greater data integrity, improved reliability, and a better overall user experience. ### Is an OS ID Mandatory For All Facilities to Register on Worldly? No, an open supply hub ID is not mandatory for facilities to register on Worldly. ### How Can Parent Companies Access Their factories' Worldly Data? Parent companies can access their factories' Worldly data by: 1\. Joining their facilities account as a user. For guidance on how to add a new user to an existing account, [see our guidance here](https://support.worldly.io/hc/en-us/articles/19418657651611?hsLang=en). 3\. Create a separate account for the parent company with [Engagement access or above](https://support.worldly.io/hc/en-us/articles/21455459654427-Platform-Subscriptions?hsLang=en), and get deeper supply chain engagement and insights, as well as additional benefits such as the Adoption tool, Analytics tool, API Connectors, and Full Adoption Services. ### If Facilities Can Continue To Post Until Dec 31, Will They Still Receive the Certificate After Posting, Even Though They Are Excluded From the Industry Benchmarking? Yes, facilities will receive the Higg FEM completion certificate once they post their assessment by Dec 31. To be included in the benchmarking they would need to post their assessment by 30th April of that year. ### If Our Facility Began Operating in the Middle of a Year, Should We Complete This Year’s or Next Year’s Higg FEM? Facilities can do one of two options: 1. Confirm requirements with brand partners. 2. Submit their partial year of data by indicating their total operating days. If you are required to do a version of Higg FEM for your performance over the months you have been in operation this year, then you should report the Higg FEM Foundations for this year's performance. **What does verification-enabled mean?** This means facilities' assessments will be easily available to the facility's chosen verification body – ensuring a streamlined review process. Additionally, Cascale has updated its verification scope to be more targeted to the foundational environmental performance and essential quantitative areas in the Higg FEM, ensuring a faster and more efficient verification process. Can I Purchase the Module and Complete Just the Self-Assessment? While it is recommended as best practice to have your data inputs verified, verification is not mandatory, and it is possible to stop at just the self-assessment. ### Why Has the Verification Process Changed With the New Assessment? Between 2019 – 2022, Higg FEM verifications grew at an exponential rate. While this growth has helped the industry to embrace a unified environmental assessment tool for their supply chains, it has also brought challenges. Verifications are conducted in more than 80 countries worldwide, and the rapid growth rate has underscored the imperative need for improvement in data quality. Cascale is committed to upholding the highest data quality standards, and in evaluating the current process, it is clear that there cannot be a one-size-fits-all approach. We spoke with several members to identify what needs to change and have evolved the verification process to be more credible, flexible, and scalable to better fit the needs of our members, and the industry. ### Where Can I Find a List of the Core Verification Questions And/or Sections Applicable on the vHigg FEM 4.0? The core question set is listed in Appendix C of the Verification Protocol which you can download here: [https://howtohigg.cascale.org/verification/Higg FEM-verification-program/#section3:~:text=Higg%C2%A0Higg FEM%20Verification%C2%A0Protocol](https://howtohigg.cascale.org/verification/fem-verification-program/#section3:~:text=Higg%C2%A0FEM%20Verification%C2%A0Protocol). ### If a Facility Has Science-Based Targets (Sbts) Approved, Will Those Be Covered in the Verification? Setting SBTs and having approved SBTs for GHGs or Water are within Level 3 of respective sections, so these questions will not be verified within the Higg FEM 2023 cycle. ### Is Core Verification Possible on Higg FEM Foundations? If you work on the Higg FEM Foundations module, you can only choose the verified foundations module, you cannot choose the core verification. ### Would It Be Considered a Conflict of Interest if Both Training and Verification Organizations Are the Same? No, it would not provided the auditors are not the same persons delivering the training. Once other colleagues within the organization are responsible for creating the content and delivering the training, then this would not represent a conflict of interest. ### Can I Share My Higg FEM Assessment With Others Even if I Do Not Verify (vHigg FEM)? Yes, verification is not mandatory and is left to your facility's discretion. You can skip it if you don't need/want to do it and still can publish and share the assessment with your customers. ### How Can We Download Higg FEM Certificates From the Online Platform After Verification? The Higg FEM certificate is available for download from the Higg FEM after the module is successfully verified and posted. Once you have posted your Higg FEM module, you can download the data and certificate from the Higg FEM dashboard, or the Modules page. ### As a Brand User, Can I Compare a Single Higg FEM Module to All Modules That I Have Received? No, it is not possible to compare a single received Higg FEM module to all Higg FEM modules that you have received in the benchmarking tool. It is possible to compare all received Higg FEM modules to the industry average or custom benchmark, or compare an individual module to the industry average or custom benchmark. ### How Can a Facility Arrange for Verification of Their Assessment on Higg FEM? Where Can I See a List of Higg FEM Verification Bodies? For the list of Higg FEM verifiers please go to [howtohigg.org/verifiers](https://www.sumerra.com/programs/sac/sac-fem-verification-program/sac-verifier-body-list/) Please note this list will continue to grow as more individuals complete the verifier application and training process. ### What Are Time Ordinance Labels? There are three types of Time Ordinance labels: 1. **Reporting Period:** Includes questions specific to quantitative metrics and questions explicitly required to be answered for the reporting period, i.e. the Higg FEM cadence period. Abbreviated as ”Reporting”. 2. **Reporting Period and Current Snapshot:** Includes questions specific to permits/licenses, training, management practices etc., that are required to be evaluated for consistency in implementation. Abbreviated as ”Reporting & Current” 3. **Current Snapshot:** Includes questions specific to present operating conditions at the time of verification. Abbreviated as ”Current”. These appear as a label underneath the question. Verified-assessment score is now known as “Partially Verified Score” in Higg FEM 2024 and 2025 cadences. It is calculated with a combination of the verified score of the L1 verification questions and the unverified score of the remaining applicable questions. *\*Verified-assessment score was also known as “Partially Verified Score” in Higg FEM 2023 cadence. It was/is calculated with a combination of verified score of the “*[*Core*](https://cascale.org/tools-programs/higg-index-tools/facility-tools/higg-fem-verification/#:~:text=need%20for%20change.-,What%E2%80%99s%20Changing,-Verification%20for%20Higg)*” verification questions and the unverified score of the remaining applicable questions.* ### What Is the Scope of Verification for Higg FEM? Will Levels 2 And/or 3 Questions Be Included for Verification? All Level 1 questions are in scope for verification in Higg FEM. Levels 2 and 3 questions are not covered in the verification scope this year. ### Is Verification for Higg FEM 4.0 Only Necessary for Level 1, but Can Facilities Choose to Also Have Levels 2 and 3 Verified Independently if They Wanted? Facilities can complete the entire self-assessment inclusive of all Levels they unlock and can respond to. For verification, the scope is narrowed to a core set of questions. The core question set is a subset of Level 1 questions. With Higg FEM verification now covering only a subset of the full Higg FEM assessment, verified Higg FEM scores will become only partially verified Higg FEM scores. Cascale is assessing alternative metrics that align with the proposed core verification approach that could potentially support the brand's internal processes. Please stay tuned for more details. ### Is the Final Score Considered a Partially Verified Score Once Again This Year for Higg FEM? Yes, this is correct; the partially verified score will comprise the Level 1 verified score together with the unverified scores of Levels 2 and 3, where applicable. ### If a Facility Has Achieved Level 1 and Answered Questions in Levels 2 and 3, How Is the Verification Score Calculated? Is It the Same as for Higg FEM 2023? As for the Higg FEM 2023 cadence, the verified-assessment score is still known as the “Partially Verified Score” and is calculated as a combination of the verified score of verification questions and the unverified score of the remaining applicable questions. ### Is There Any Score for the Higg FEM2023 Core Verification? If Yes, How Will It Be Scored? There will be a Partially Verified score which is the adjusted self-assessment score based on the corrected answers during verification. Cascale is working to provide more guidelines on interpreting scores and outcomes from a verified assessment. More information will be made available soon. ### Is the Verification Module Now Included in the Purchase of Higg FEM 2023? Verification is now enabled in Higg FEM subscriptions. Verification is an important part of validating the accuracy of facility data. Previously, facilities had to pay an additional fee for verification enablement when buying their annual assessments. Now, it’s included in the single price for the assessment. ### What Are the Costs Associated With Verification? Discounts are not available. We encourage all users to complete the process of verification, ensuring their data is as accurate as possible. As more and more companies are required to comply with regulations, it is important to be reporting accurate, verified data. ### Has the Collection Process of Verification Access Fees Changed? Until May 2023, Worldly had collected the fee associated with the Higg FEM verification. Manufacturers could purchase both the Higg FEM module for completion and the vHigg FEM directly on Worldly’s platform. However, to better align with standard industry processes, Worldly has transferred this responsibility to the Cascale. From now on, verification bodies will manage the collection of this fee on behalf of the Cascale. It's important to note that this isn't the introduction of a new fee; instead, we aim to apply this existing fee in a more transparent manner. The Higg FEM 4.0 price increase reflects significant additions made to the assessment – adding value to manufacturers and their brand partners. Higg FEM 4.0 includes new features to improve data quality, embedded support when and where users need it, and a revamped training program, ensuring our industry has the best available environmental data for regulations, and performance improvement. In response to emerging regulations, we regularly hear from customers that completing Higg FEM verification is essential – helping ensure brands and manufacturers are disclosing accurate data. To better support our customers through this industry shift, we’ve enabled verification in the Higg FEM. ### Will I Lose Points if I Answer ‘No’ to a Question in the Higg FEM? Not all questions on the FEM are scored questions. You will miss out on points only if you answer negatively to a scored question. Each question in each level in each section is weighted equally, which means the maximum score that you can obtain for each question is the same in the respective section. No, self assessment scores are available as soon as the assessment is posted on the platform. ### Where Can We See What Level We Are on and Which Levels Still Need To Be Completed? The circles indicate for each section which levels have been completed. - Full blue circle - level completed, the level's score is 100% - Half blue circle - level partially completed, the level's score is \< 100% - Empty circle - level is locked, the level's score is 0% ### How Soon Can the Score Be Viewed Once FEM2024 Self Assessments Are Uploaded? Once the assessments are completed and posted, the self-assessed module total score and section scores are available directly on the platform and also available for download. Verified scores are available after verification is finalized. Facilities must share their module with supply chain partners for the partner to be able to view their score. ### Are Brands Allowed to Publicly Disclose Average Higg FEM and vFEM Scores? With the introduction of “core verification," the communication of full FEM 2023 scores is not possible, as scores are partially verified. As required by Cascale, only fully verified data can be communicated externally. We encourage members to publicly share their Higg FEM Self-Assessment and Verification certificates to showcase the successful completion of both the module and the verification process and highlight their commitment to sustainability. ### How Can We View All the Questions on the Higg FEM in Order To Understand Any Potential That Might Exist for Improving Our Score?
