Recommendations

  • Implement a strict No-Smoking Policy in all workplace areas, especially near flammable materials.
  • Ensure all electrical installations are maintained, with no exposed wiring or faulty circuits that could ignite fires.
  • Develop and enforce safe operating procedures for heat-generating equipment such as boilers, stoves, and welding stations.
  • Install fire-resistant partitions around high-heat equipment to prevent the spread of potential fires.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain boiler rooms and other heat-generating areas, ensuring they are properly ventilated and separated from the main production floor.
  • Conduct fire drills and emergency response training for all workers to ensure proper procedures in case of fire-related incidents.

 

Are flammable/combustible materials safely stored?

Recommendations

  • Establish designated fire-resistant storage areas for all flammable and combustible materials, ensuring they are kept away from heat sources, electrical equipment, stairwells, and production areas.
  • Implement a strict flammable material handling policy aligned with ILO Convention No. 155 (Occupational Safety and Health) and Better Work fire prevention standards.
  • Provide training to workers on the safe handling and storage of flammable materials.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and immediately rectify any non-compliance.
  • Install clearly labeled fire hazard signs and ensure proper fire suppression systems (fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, fire blankets) are in place near storage areas.
