The Production Volume Allocation feature helps brands quickly view a facility's total annual production volume, reported within the FEM, and add their share or allocation of that volume. This feature allows:
- Accurate calculations of their environmental impact
- Prioritization of facilities for decarbonization programs
- Understanding of facility capacity
Allocation of production volume will soon flow into Insights Hub and Axion to allow users to see total calculations alongside calculations based on allocated volume, or the proportion of production volume they are responsible for.
NOTE: 100% of a facility's production is allocated to Insights Hub and Axion by default if no volume is defined. If you do not want this logic to apply, you must enter 0 if there was no production volume with a given facility.
To access this feature, your facilities must first have shared FEMs with your brand account. When you navigate to the All Modules table as a brand user, the table must already be populated with FEMs in order to see this feature.
Overview
To get started, navigate to the Assessments tab at the top navigation bar and select Higg FEM.
On the All Modules table, notice the two highlighted columns: Production Volume and Partner-Defined Allocation.
- Production Volume: A static column that displays values directly from the FEM: the facility type, the reported annual volume, and the corresponding units.
- Partner-Defined Allocation: A dynamic column that displays your share of that production volume value. Data can be manually entered here in the table or bulk uploaded.
NOTE: Brands cannot allocate a volume greater than the total volume reported by the facility.
Why can’t I edit these columns?
These two columns will only be available if the associated FEM has been posted.
Additionally, any FEM assessments prior to FEM 4.0 (FEM 2023) will not have these columns available. For example, any FEM assessments completed in 2022 or earlier will not include these columns.
Partner-Defined Allocation: Manual Entry
- On the All Modules table, locate the Partner-Define Allocation column. This column will NOT show up if the associated FEM has not been posted. Only posted FEMs will have this column available.
- Click in the plus (+) icon or blue shaded field to enter the production volume for the corresponding FEM.
- In this example, the first row does not have anything allocated yet.
- In this example, the first row indicates there are 0 pcs / pairs out of 5,750,000 produced allocated to your brand.
- In this example, the first row does not have anything allocated yet.
- Enter the value into the field and click away from the table or press enter.
Note that in order for the value to be saved in the table, it cannot be:
- A negative value
- A decimal
- Larger than the value in the Production Volume column
Partner-Defined Allocation: Bulk Upload
- On the All Modules table, locate the Partner-Define Allocation column. This column will NOT show up if the associated FEM has not been posted. Only posted FEMs will have this column available.

- Click the Download button in the column header, which will reveal the Upload window.
- This window also appears when you select Define Production Allocation from Insights Hub.
- This window also appears when you select Define Production Allocation from Insights Hub.
- Click Download CSV Template to download a template for bulk uploading values into this column.
- Fill out the Partner-Defined Allocation Quantity column in order to upload your production volume allocation CSV. Click here to view all the Example CSV columns.
- Once the template has been filled out, click Upload Template to open the bulk uploader.
- Click Upload File and select the completed Example CSV.
- On the next two windows, map the incoming fields and incoming values. If a field is blank, select the drop down menu to locate the correct field.
- Once you’ve completed the field and value mapping, click Continue.
- If there are any errors, hover over the red shaded cell and resolve the issue. You can also click the Invalid tab to isolate the rows with errors.
- Once your fields are successfully uploaded into the bulk upload table, click Submit Data.
- Your uploaded data will appear in the All Modules table.
Once the values have been uploaded, they are still editable on the table as long as the changed value is not negative, not a decimal, and not larger than the indicated production volume.
Filters and Partner-Defined Allocation
If you want to only enter Partner-Defined Allocation for a specific parameter, you must apply the filter first. This concept applies to all filters on the FEM Modules table such as Year, Status, Self, Verified, Facility Foundations, etc.
For example, if you only want to enter Partner-Defined Allocation for 2024, you must:
Select the year from the dropdown menu (ex: 2024)
Select Upload
Select Download CSV Template from the pop-out window
This produces a template with just the parameters you filtered for. In this example, only one entry populates in the template because Production Volume Allocation is only applicable to assessments in two statuses: ASC or VRF. Click here to learn more about assessment statuses.
Example CSV Columns
| Column ID | Field Name | Description |
| assessment_id | Assessment ID (Required) |
Auto-generated ID of the FEM Assessment. Reflects ALL shared submissions that are in ASC OR VRF.
|
| worldly_id | Worldly ID (Required) | Worldly auto-generated ID of the facility that owns the FEM. |
| facility_name | Facility Name | Name of facility that owns the FEM. |
| facility_type | Facility Type (Required) | Type of facility, reported within the FEM. Click here to learn more about facility types. |
| version | Version | Version repeats for each row and is related to the specific submission. |
| status | Status | Reflects the status of the submission row (ASC or VRF). Click here to learn more about assessment statuses. |
| total_quantity_produced | Total Quantity Produced | Total quantity produced annually, reported within the FEM. |
| quantity_unit | Quantity Unit | Unit of measure for the total quantity produced annually, based on the facility type reported within the FEM. This is specific to the facility type and displays for both self and verified assessments. |
| account_allocated | Account Allocated | The portion of the facility's total annual quantity produced allocated to brands or partners. They should only see their production volume and should never see another brand's allocation or see a row for another brand. |
| facility_reported_allocation_quantity | Facility-reported Allocation Quantity | This column holds the portion of the facility's reported total quantity produced that they allocate out to this brand partner. The allocation is specific to the brand AND facility type. |
| partner_defined_allocation_quantity | Partner-Defined Allocation Quantity (Required) | Self-defined allocation inputted by brand. |
|
total_energy_mj * Column only applies to brands * Available when downloaded, but not used for uploading |
Total Energy (MJ) |
Total energy reported by the facility in the FEM. This value is specific to the facility type listed in the facility_type column. |
