Decarbonization Dashboard
The Decarbonization dashboard shows how facilities in your supply chain use energy, what emissions that energy creates, and what facilities are doing to reduce them.
Decarbonization KPI Cards
The Decarbonization dashboard has 12 key performance indicator (KPI) cards. The top three are Carbon Intensity, Total Emissions, and FEM Energy Score (set in November 2026). Below the KPI cards, click View more to see the other nine.

Decarbonization Hotspots
Hotspots help you find where your emissions and energy use are concentrated. The Facility KPI Table is shown by default (November 2026). Most hotspot charts show the Top 12 groups in descending order. Use filters to see groups outside the top 12.
Carbon Intensity by Country and by Facility Type are most useful when you are looking across several FEM modules. Emission Mix is most useful when you are looking at one FEM module.
Decarbonization Hotspot Charts

- Emission Mix, Energy Mix, Renewable Energy Mix, and Purchased Renewables Mix Tables: Each facility's split across the sources in the matching chart.
- Initiative tables: One table for each initiative category. Each shows the metric that defines its initiative (January 2026).
Decarbonization Initiatives
Initiatives show what facilities have reported doing, such as having an energy audit or a phase-out plan. Each initiative card shows the percentage of facilities that meet it. For what the L0 to L3 levels mean, how percentages are calculated, the green and red ranges, the initiative drawer, and who can see initiatives, see How the Numbers Work in Insights Hub.
The Decarbonization dashboard has seven initiative categories:
- Top Initiatives: the initiatives customers ask about most often. Start here.
- Strategy: whether facilities have the policies and systems in place.
- Compliance: whether facilities hold required permits and meet air-emissions rules.
- Engagement: whether facilities train staff and work with suppliers and communities.
- Tracking: whether facilities measure and record their energy and emissions.
- Planned Improvement & Remediation: whether facilities have plans and targets.
- Recorded Improvements & Remediation: whether facilities have made progress on those plans.
Some cards appear in more than one category, for example Track Energy, Audit, and SBTi.
Top Decarbonization Initiatives
Top Initiatives are the initiatives customers ask about most often. They are the best place to start. The category has 13 initiative cards.

Decarbonization Metric Definitions
This section explains each carbon and energy KPI on the Decarbonization dashboard: what it measures, why it is useful, and how it is calculated in plain language.
Emission Factor Changes in FEM 2025
FEM 2025 updated some emission factors (district heating, chilled water, and biomass) and uses updated grid factors from the International Energy Agency (IEA) annual update for Scope 2 emissions (November 2025). Keep this in mind when you compare FEM 2025 results with earlier years.
Total Emissions
Greenhouse gas emissions from Scope 1 and Scope 2 at facilities that have shared FEM assessments with you. Reported in kgCO2e (kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent). Scope 3 emissions (from the wider supply chain) are not included.
Tip: Total Emissions is most useful with filters. For example, filter to Tier 1 facilities to see how much they contribute.
Carbon Intensity
How many kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent are released for each megajoule (MJ) of energy used. It includes all energy sources.
How it is calculated: Take total emissions, subtract refrigerant emissions, and divide by total energy. If total energy is zero, no value is shown.
Tip: To reduce carbon intensity, focus on moving to renewable energy.
Thermal Carbon Intensity
Emissions per megajoule of thermal (fuel-based) energy. It shows how efficiently thermal energy is used.
Thermal sources include biodiesel, biomass, purchased chilled water, coal, diesel, fuel oil, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), natural gas, petrol or gasoline, propane, purchased steam, purchased district heating, biogas, compressed natural gas (CNG), coal water slurry, fabric waste, ethanol, and hydrogen.
Tip: Thermal sources are usually concentrated in Tier 2 facilities and account for most of an organization's emissions. This KPI covers only thermal activity, such as heating, generating power, or running industrial processes.
Electricity Carbon Intensity
Emissions per megajoule of electricity used. It shows how efficient your electricity use is.
Tip: Use this KPI to decide where to invest in renewable energy through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), renewable energy certificates, or other arrangements.
% Thermal Energy
The percentage of energy use (MJ) that comes from thermal sources.
Tip: Use this with Thermal Carbon Intensity to decide which facilities should improve energy efficiency first.
% Electricity Is Onsite Renewable
The percentage of energy use that comes from renewable sources at the facility. Renewable sources included: geothermal, hydro, micro-hydro, solar photovoltaic, solar thermal, and wind.
Tip: Use this with Electricity Carbon Intensity to see whether there is room to improve.
% Electricity Is Purchased Renewable
The percentage of energy use that comes from purchased renewable sources, from both vehicle and non-vehicle sources.
Tip: Use this with Electricity Carbon Intensity to see whether there is room to increase renewable purchasing, for example through energy attribute certificates (EACs).
Pc-Pair Production Carbon Intensity
Emissions per piece or pair produced. This measure only covers facilities that report production in pieces or pairs (Final Product Assembly & Finished Product Processing facilities). It may not cover all Tier 1 data.
Tip: Compare facilities that make similar products to see which are most efficient per product.
Kg Production Carbon Intensity
Emissions per kilogram of production. This covers facilities that report production in kilograms. Those facilities include every tier, so use filters to view Tier 1 or Tiers 2 to 4 separately.
Tip: Compare facilities with the same process types, because processes differ between facility types.
Pc-Pair Production Energy Intensity
Energy used per piece or pair produced (MJ/pc-pair). Like Pc-Pair Production Carbon Intensity, it covers only Final Product Assembly and Finished Product Processing facilities.
Kg Production Energy Intensity
Energy used per kilogram of production (MJ/kg). Covers the same facility types as Kg Production Carbon Intensity.
FEM Energy Score
The average score on the energy section of the Higg FEM 4.0. Use it to track improvement in a facility's FEM assessment over time. The scoring method is described in the Higg FEM 4.0 scoring methodology on howtohigg.org.
Examples of How to Use Decarbonization KPIs
Electricity Carbon Intensity. Facilities with a lot of renewable sources may have low electricity carbon intensity. Moving from fuel-based power to renewable electricity is an important step, but it can be hard to switch a fuel-based thermal system to renewables.
% Electricity Is Onsite Renewable. If carbon intensity is high and onsite renewable use is low, there may be room to improve. If both are high, the facility has already made much of its renewable progress, and improvements should come from other areas, such as thermal energy.
% Electricity Is Purchased Renewable. If carbon intensity is high and purchased renewable use is low, consider buying more renewable energy, for example through EACs. If purchased renewable use is already high, look at reducing thermal energy use.
Pc-Pair Production Carbon Intensity. If several facilities make similar products at similar volumes in different regions, compare their emissions per product. The facilities with the highest values are the best candidates for reduction programs.
