Energy is used throughout manufacturing facilities for various operational and production activities. The Higg FEM requires that facilities track and report energy use data for the energy sources listed below, which are grouped into three categories (Purchased, Renewable, and Non-Renewable Energy).
Additional requirements on reporting energy data in the Higg FEM including any specific exclusions are provided in the relevant Higg FEM question guidance below.

Notes: (1) Coal - commercial mix includes all types of traditional coal (e.g., anthracite, bituminous, etc.) (2) Coal Water Slurry is a combustible mixture of fine coal particles suspended in water used as fuel source. (3) Fuel Oil - Blended includes all types of fuel oils (e.g., furnace oil, bunker fuel, etc.) (4) Biomass – Sustainably sourced with certification is any biomass that has supporting certification documentation from a sustainably sourced biomass program (e.g., Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), ISCC Biomass Certification, Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP) Certification, Better Biomass Certification, Country Specific Certification, etc.) (5) Biomass - Without sustainably sourced biomass certification is any biomass that is not certified through a sustainably sourced biomass program. |
