Production Volume Allocation
Insights Hub now supports FEM Production Volume Allocation. Now, when you allocate production volume of a facility to your organization in FEM Modules, you’ll be able to see more accurate and actionable insights in Insights Hub.
Carbon Intensity, Total Emissions, Total Water, Total Waste, and more metrics will now be proportional to your share of production in that facility and across your supply chain. This provides more accurate metrics for reporting and lets you hone in on priority facilities or regions for engagement.
With the launch of Production Volume Allocation in the Insights Hub, data is now processed at the facility type level rather than the individual facility level. While most metrics remain unchanged, this update has slightly adjusted the calculation methodology for certain "Sum" KPIs (e.g., Total GHG Emissions or Total Blue Water Use) when compared to benchmarks.
What has changed? Previously, benchmark comparisons were calculated by averaging values across the total number of facilities. Now, the average is calculated across the total number of facility types.
Why this matters: If a single assessment covers multiple facility types, that assessment may now be counted multiple times in the denominator of the average. This ensures that benchmarking accurately reflects production volume distribution across different categories.
KPIs
The Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in the Insights Hub provide figures for diagnostic and reporting purposes. Based on inputs from customers and experts at Cascale and Worldly, the KPIs defined below are the measurable metrics used to track progress toward goals, show how effective an organization’s performance is toward achieving a specific objective, and provide actionable insights for improvement.
KPIs use calculated measures, which are aggregated values across multiple assessments. Calculated measures are used for producing a single ratio across multiple assessments, ensuring that larger amounts of data or time periods are weighted appropriately.
In addition to the global outlier filters based on the FEM: Outlier Detection Guide for Brands and the
FEM: Outlier Detection Guide for Facilities, certain KPIs also apply specific filters that align with Cascale validations applied in the Member Analytics Portal. This removes individual assessment data from the calculation of that KPI, however, the Facility KPI Table will contain those facility values for further analysis.
Limited to a single assessment, calculated dimensions are used for boxplots and other single-supplier values found in facility tables. This is akin to calculations found in the FEM performance file or CSV v2.
Hotspots
Hotspot charts and tables help you prioritize your resources where they'll drive the greatest business value and impact. Visualize KPIs across regions, facility types, and processes. View supplier tables and see distributions of energy use & emissions sources.
Initiatives
Actions that an organization can take or participate in to improve the sustainability, efficiency, or overall performance of a facility. These actions fall under strategy, compliance, engagement, or tracking.
More Information about Outliers
Insights Hub uses the same methodology as the FEM: Outlier Detection Guide for Brands and the
FEM: Outlier Detection Guide for Facilities. Learn more about the outlier functionality in Insights Hub here.
Even if an outlier has been checked or resolved via FEM data check, the Insights Hub will still flag and exclude it.
When an outlier is flagged and excluded, the entire assessment is excluded. In order to include outliers, the outlier toggle must be switched to include outliers.
There are also calculation validations on KPIs, which you can see in each metric definitions article under the Formula drop-down menu. If the KPI's calculation is not validated, it removes the datapoint from the KPI. However, you can still find the assessment in the Facility KPI table.
