EFs are multiplied by the corresponding activity data to estimate emissions. According to the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute, the basic formula is:
Activity Data x Emission Factor = GHG Emissions
The units associated with the Activity Data must be converted to match the units used by the EF to calculate the estimated GHG Emissions.
