The Higg Facility Environmental Module (FEM) is an assessment that measures the environmental impact of manufacturing facilities in order to track and improve its performance.
The FEM is most commonly used by facilities to measure and improve the environmental performance of the consumer goods industries. However, facilities of all types commonly use the FEM as their tool to measure environmental performance.
This assessment evaluates the environmental impact of product manufacturing at facilities across seven impact categories:
- Environmental Management Systems
- Energy Use and GHG Emissions
- Water Use
- Wastewater
- Air Emissions
- Waste Management
- Chemicals Management
The Higg FEM is generally applicable to most manufacturers. Some manufacturers may need to review the available guidance to better understand how the assessment applies to their operations, such as in the “Site Info” section.
