Facility Data Manager: Target Setting Best Practices

Even though FDM tracks progress on a monthly basis, baselines and targets are set on an annual basis. When setting targets within Facility Data Manager, targets should:

1. Include a base year and target year. 
2. Be aggressive and reach a level of reduction that is beyond business as usual in an organization’s sector. A good rule of thumb to determine whether it is sufficient is to align it with the criteria of the Science-Based Targets Initiative. 
3. Be clearly defined and achieve an absolute reduction in GHG emissions over a specified period of time. For example, a 25% reduction over 10 years.
4. Address scope 1 and 2 emissions of the facility.
